Classification of Effective Neutrino Mass Operators

چکیده
We present a classification of SU(3)C × SU(2)L × U(1)Y gauge invariant ∆L = 2 (L being lepton number) effective operators relevant for generating small Majorana neutrino masses. Operators of dimension up to 11 have been included in our analysis. This approach enables us to systematically identify interesting neutrino mass models. It is shown that many of the well–known models fall into this classification. In addition, a number of new models are proposed and their neutrino phenomenology is outlined. Of particular interest is a large class of models in which neutrinoless double beta decays arise at a lower order compared to the neutrino mass, making these decays accessible to the current round of experiments. Effective Neutrino Mass Operators: A Guide to Model Building
Effective operators relevant for generating small Majorana masses for the neutrinos in the Standard Model will be considered. These operators serve as a useful guide for building models of neutrino mass. Some of these operators are represented by familiar models in the literature, and others lead to interesting new models. The number of the relevant operators will be drastically reduced if neut...
متن کاملExtended Black Box Theorem for Lepton Number and Flavor Violating processes
We revisit the well known “Black Box” theorem establishing a fundamental relation between the amplitude of neutrinoless double beta decay and the effective Majorana neutrino mass. We extend this theorem to the general case of arbitrary lepton number and lepton flavor violating (LFNV) processes and to the three generation Majorana neutrino mass matrix. We demonstrate the existence of a general s...
متن کاملNeutrino masses from operator mixing
We show that in theories that reduce, at the Fermi scale, to an extension of the standard model with two doublets, there can be additional dimension five operators giving rise to neutrino masses. In particular there exists a singlet operator which can not generate neutrino masses at tree level but generates them through operator mixing. Under the assumption that only this operator appears at tr...
متن کاملNeutrino Mass Operator Renormalization in Two Higgs Doublet Models and the MSSM
In a recent re-analysis of the Standard Model (SM) β-function for the effective neutrino mass operator, we found that the previous results were not entirely correct. Therefore, we consider the analogous dimension five operators in a class of Two Higgs Doublet Models (2HDM’s) and the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). Deriving the renormalization group equations for these effective op...
متن کاملActive-sterile neutrino mixing in the absence of bare active neutrino mass
We investigate a minimal extension of the standard model in which the only new ingredient is the sterile neutrinos. We do not introduce extra Higgs multiplets or high dimensional effective operators to induce mass terms for the active neutrinos, and the model is renormalizable in itself. We show for arbitrary numbers of generations and sterile neutrinos that the independent physical parameters ...
